Our History

Born in the back of a diner in May of 1997, The Long Island Chapter of Women in the Wind, Inc., was formed by seven steadfast women who all had a common interest.....the love of riding. Determined to begin a place where other women could share this fever, meetings were held and plans were made.

Formed as a not-for profit organization under our parent chapter, Women in the Wind,(www.womeninthewind.org) is an international organization for female motorcycle enthusiasts. Our mission is to promote a positive image of female motorcyclists. We attempt to educate, encourage, and offer camaraderie to women who have been riding with or without the knowledge or support of other women riders.

WITW-LI members are a diverse group of women with a multitude of occupations, riding all types of bikes. We range in age from our '20s to '60s.

WITW has 49 Chapters, over 1000 members total, with 90 of them being associates. Membership is growing consistently. This number does not include the members from Norway, Sweden and Netherlands.

Currently there are 49 registered women in the Long Island Chapter. Enrollment is accepted year round.

Our Purpose:
~ Educate our members in motorcycle safety and maintenance
~ Unite women motorcyclists with friends of common interest
~ Promote a positive image to the public of women on motorcycles
